Proverbs of a 40 yr. old man
Change of seasons series. Summer has come again. The season of summer is the warmest time of the year. It is one of growth and production in the plant life cycle. Flowers and fruits bring fragrance, beauty, and delicious sweetness. The long days of summer bring the most sunlight and is the perfect time of year for slowing down and taking a break from our business. Taste and see that the LORD is good! The heat and warm weather symbolize joy and refreshment as fresh living water comes and fills our dry earthen souls! Spend this time reaping what you have sown in tears because of the joy of your salvation. He who gathers in summer is a wise son, but he who sleeps during harvest is a disgraceful son. Its time to bask in the blessings and relationship we have in Christ. Like the disciples of Jesus receiving a full load of fish on a boat, so do we in this summer season rejoice with the harvest we have been given. A harvest of thirty, sixty, or even a hundred times as much as had been planted! In this season we must stay connected to the branch constantly. The tendency of the flesh is to bear fruit for a season and then not accept the pruning that comes from the LORD. Yes, we have produced much fruit be we must stay connected to the Vine because the summer sun over time will dry us out. The hot sun rises and the grass withers; the little flower droops and falls, and its beauty fades away. The seeds of faith we have planted many times do not take root because of the shallow soil and small investment we did. The seeds sprouted quickly but the soil was shallow. Our plans and passions soon wilted under the hot sun, and since they didn’t have any deep roots, they died. Day and night the hand of discipline is heavy. Strength is evaporated like water in the summer heat. We must prepare provisions while in summer season; and gather food at harvest. We go through seasons of our lives; and leaves are changing colors again. We go through constant cycles of maturity. And you cannot skip a season jumping from Spring to Winter or Autumn to Summer. There is a time to be born and a time to die. A time to plant and a time to harvest. What do people really get for all their hard work? I have seen the burden God has laid on the human race. He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end. I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live. And people should eat and drink and enjoy the fruits of their labor, for these are gifts from God.
