Proverbs of a 40 yr. old man
A pure light. A pure soul. You have heard maybe the expression, that person is the salt of the earth. Meaning they are pure and humble people, good hearted and loving people. Jesus said that we are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless. Amen. The very next verse He talks about light. You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. Amazing how salt and light can be so pure yet so easy to manipulate. For example, salt can be trampled and even lose it flavor. And light can cast a shadow no matter how bright. But praise God every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. He chose to give birth to us by giving us his true word. And we, out of all creation, became his prized possession. Through Christ we are given His pure Light and Love shining in us and through us. Jesus has made us right with God; he made us pure and holy, and he has freed us from sin! I love the story in Scripture of Jesus seeing Nathanael for the first time coming towards Him. When Jesus saw Nathanael approaching, he said of him, “Here truly is an Israelite in whom there is no deceit.” A man of complete integrity! Amen. Blessed is the man against whom the LORD counts no iniquity, and in whose spirit, there is no deceit. Oh, to be a pure light and pure soul for the LORD Jesus. Open my eyes Jesus to see the wonderful truths in your instructions. I am a stranger on earth; do not hide your commands from me. My soul is consumed with longing for your laws at all times. Amen. The precepts of the LORD are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the LORD are radiant, giving light to the eyes. May our eyes of our hearts be healthy so our whole body can be full of light. For when it is bad, your body is full of darkness. Haughty eyes, a proud heart, and evil actions are all sin. Be careful, then, that the light within you is not darkness. Then you will be the pure and innocent children of God. You live among people who are crooked and evil, but you must not do anything they can say is wrong. Try to shine as lights among the people of this world, as you hold firmly to the message that gives life. A pure light, a pure soul. Who may ascend the mountain of the LORD? Who may stand in his holy place? The one who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not trust in an idol or swear by a false god. They will receive blessing from the LORD and vindication from God their Savior. Such is the generation of those who seek him, who seek your face, God of Jacob.
