Proverbs of a 40 yr. old man

Your extra effort means nothing if people do not appreciate it. In fact, people will start to take advantage of your efforts if you're not careful and turn it against you somehow. Yes, when we work, we do it with all our heart knowing the LORD has an inheritance and reward for us. But let's not throw our pearls to the pigs in order to win favoritism. People should be held accountable for what needs to be done and the effort that is needed, and it starts from the top down. Some of the hardest workers are those who do the most difficult of things. A person who gets ahead by oppressing the poor or by showering gifts on the rich will end in poverty. Make every effort to do what has been asked of you. And anything extra make sure that you're not being exploited.

Here is another bit of wisdom that has impressed me as I have watched the way our world works. There was a small town with only a few people, and a great king came with his army and besieged it. A poor, wise man knew how to save the town, and so it was rescued. But afterward no one thought to thank him. So, I decided that wisdom is better than strength. Yet if you are poor, no one pays any attention to you, no matter how smart you are. It is useless for you to work so hard from early morning until late at night, anxiously working for food to eat; for God gives rest to his loved ones. People who work hard sleep well, whether they eat little or much. But the rich seldom get a good night’s sleep. Work hard but work wise. Redeeming the time because the days are evil. Make the most of every opportunity being shrewd like a snake and innocent as doves. O simple ones, learn to be shrewd; O fools, gain understanding. The wise inherit honor, but fools are put to shame!
